In the suburbs outside of Birmingham, Alabama, Jonathan began playing trombone in middle school. He continued playing through high school, as well as at many church settings. There he had to learn to improvise since there was no music written for him. These experiences helped him grow as a musician, and to do more than just read the music on the paper.
After high school, Jonathan attended both the University of Alabama in Birmingham and then the University of Alabama in Huntsville where he participated in the jazz programs as a trombone performance major. Although he never finished his degree in music, these experiences introduced him to many friends that were always more than willing to have a trombone player sit in on their bands and recording sessions.
Jonathan has played with the Birmingham Heritage Band and many other small combos for weddings and parties. He is a member of Church of the Highlands in Birmingham, where he has played for several special events over the years.
Jonathan is currently involved in two companies: WayCool Software as Vice President of Development and JM TechWare as President. WayCool helps provide software management solutions for hundreds of Christian-based crisis pregnancy centers across the United States. Through Jonathan’s other company, JM TechWare, he has published two books on software development while actively speaking on Microsoft-related technologies. Although Jonathan’s day job isn’t playing trombone, he plays every chance he gets.
