High Five for Mike Campaign

"high five for mike" "cloud 9 orchestra" trust fund leukemia

As most of you know April is cancer awareness month, and I can say that I know many friends and family who have been effected by cancer.  It is no respecter of persons.  Many of you probably know of someone who has dealt with the challenges of cancer.

A few months ago, my friend and fellow musician Mike Sangermano was diagnosed with Leukemia (pictured above at Rush University Hospital in Chicago, IL).  He has gone through three chemo treatments and is about to start his fourth next week on April 9, 2012.  The chemo is probably the toughest part of it all because it totally wipes his immune system.  He receives blood transfusions to help, but it makes him very weak.  While this has been going on he has been unable to work, but if things go well, this may be his last chemo to hopefully but this cancer into remission.  The great thing about it is Mike’s attitude and trust in God.  He know that no matter what it is a win-win situation.  There is no cure for cancer yet, but there is a cure for death–Jesus Christ.  Mike has a wonderful story about how all of this has drawn him closer to God and strengthen his faith.  I have been touched and inspired by his story.  I want to do everything I can to help him get back on his feet as he fights through this.  I am asking for your help.  I would like to ask for you, first and foremost, to pray for Mike’s leukemia to go into remission.  Please feel free to share this with your family and friends.  Also, please pray for his financial situation right now.  The medical costs, living expenses, and lack of support from government programs (food stamps, disability, etc.) has made this a very stressful environment for him to navigate through.  He has a very positive attitude, but I think we all can help by lifting him up in prayer.  Along with that, I would like to ask you to consider donating at least $5 to his trust fund via the PayPal Donate button below–as part of the “High Five for Mike” Campaign.  We have set up a trust fund with the IRS and his local bank to accept payments to help him through this time as he recovers and is unable to work.  We really believe God is taking him through this to help others, and when he is better he would like to travel and share his story to inspire others.  Would you join me in giving Mike a high five of encouragement through prayer and donations?  Simply click the donate button below to make a secure donation via PayPal–you do NOT have to have a PayPal account to do so.  Thanks so much for your time and consideration.  It can and will make the difference in his life and in yours.  “A generous man will prosper, and he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.” (Proverbs 11:25 )

UPDATE as of APRIL 29, 2012:
As April draws to a close, let’s not forget those who have been affected by cancer. It is no respecter of persons. I appreciate all of you who have contributed to the High Five for Mike Campaign which we started this month for my friend, Mike Sangermano, who has now completed his 4th round of chemo in the fight against leukemia. So many of you have prayed and donated money to his cause. 100% of it goes directly to his trust fund where he can access it to help him through this rough time. I want you to know it is greatly appreciated. Mike personally has written a personal note of thanks to all of you who donated. He has been so touched and encouraged by all of you.Remember that his fight, like so many with him, continues beyond April. He needs our support and encouragement, so please please remember him in prayer and share this campaign with your friends and family as he looks at the possibility of a 5th chemo treatment. We pray that his cancer goes from remission to obliteration. He has an amazing story to tell, and I know that he will be an encouragement to those who fight this horrific disease. May God’s grace return to you in exceeding measure for your investment of time and support through prayers and giving. IT DOES MAKE A DIFFERENCE.UPDATE AS OF 17 MAY 2012: I spoke to Mike Sangermano today. He was in a wreck last week and his car was totaled.  He was hit by a lady who wasn’t paying attention.  His platelets were too low to start his 5th chemo treatment this week.  I believe it was the stress.  He goes back into the hospital for round 5 for next week.  Please pray for him not to get discouraged.  It is really testing his faith as it was a financial burden being out of work and weak from the treatments. Now he has an additional car payment–albeit used. The good news is that the chemo is in going into remission, but the docs want to make sure–so he will have the 5th treatment.  I would like to rally fans to donate at least $5 via Paypal to his trust fund here: DONATE $5 NOW!  We started this High Five for Mike Campaign on Facebook to help him through this rough patch.  Some of you have donated to his cause, and for that we thank you very much.  If you haven’t, would you consider sending $5 to his cause?  100% goes directly to him through his trust fund at the local bank.  Thanks so much for your time and consideration. UPDATE as of 26 JUN 2012: Mike has came through the 5th round of chemo treatment, despite getting sick again and having to go back into the hospital.  His hair is starting to come back, but he still not gaining the weight as quickly as they thought he would.  He goes back to the doctor tomorrow for a bone marrow biopsy to determine if the leukemia is indeed in remission.  His condition has prevented him from working since the latter part of last year.  He has thoroughly exhausted his options, and despite meager amounts from his social security disability, he will possibly lose his house in mid-September.  We are in the process of ramping up the “High Five for Mike” campaign with a benefit concert.  it is still in the planning phases, but we are hoping for early-mid August in Birmingham, Alabama.  We all appreciate the support via prayers, encouragement, and donations.  Please continue to remember Mike and his situation in prayer.  We will continue to update you all of his progress.  Thanks for your time and consideration. UPDATE as of 9 JUL 2012:
Mike’s docs want him to put on some weight, but his hair is coming back nice.  He had a bone marrow biopsy which came back negative for cancer, so it seems he is cancer free–only time will tell (6 months from now will give us a good indicator).  He is still struggling financially and may lose his home in September despite his best efforts to keep it.  The car wreck (which totaled his car) also put some extra burden on him.  He has a positive attitude in the midst of it all.  I am in the process of planning a High Five for Mike Campaign Benefit Concert in/around Birmingham, Alabama area with Cloud 9 Orchestra where Mike will come and share his story. The date is set, but the place is still in the works. It will be Saturday, August 18, 2012. He will also be coming to Doctrinal Bible Church on Sunday morning to share his testimony at the 2nd half on 19 Aug 2012.  All who wish to support this event, please give as God leads via the link above.  We are simply asking folks to donate at least $5 to this High Five Campaign for Mike.  It goes directly into his trust fund whereby he can access it for his immediate needs.  For those who can’t give, please pause right now, and lift him in prayer to God for complete remission.  Stay tuned to our website and social networking pages for details on the upcoming concert.  Thanks and may God bless you!

  1. Hi Mike, So sorry to hear about your illness. This is the first I am hearing about it. I will be praying for you and for the medical staff that is taking care of you. I pray the Lord will give them wisdom to do the best things for you to get you into remission. And may the Lord wrap his arms around you and comfort you during this time. God Bless You Mike! And God Bless your friend who set up this High Five Campaign for you!
